Hello, I'm August the blind Blues dog!
THANK YOU! I'm now home with Maureen & her pack in NY!
Thanks to all of you who helped me arrive here. I have a new life! Love, ~Augie
Hey World, perhaps you've heard of me. I'm August (friends call me Augie) the blind dog originally from Murfreesboro TN. I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks; I lived my first couple of years literally with no relief from the short chain that imprisoned me. Next I ended up on Death Row at the local shelter and only a last-second rescue by fine folks including the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance kept me alive. I'm just getting over a couple of infections. I've known much hunger and neglect ... yes, I've lived the life of a Blues Dog. I know the Blues.
Recently, I'm learning a new life. Folks have been treating me - Augie the blind Blues dog - very well lately. The shelter folks put out an APB for a rescue and they came! First foster Kim trimmed off all of the horrible mats from my fur. Grayson and Cheri opened their hearts and home, then Val took me to the vet who prescribed antibiotics for my cough and, well, "private areas" and I'm getting healthier, temporarily living with Val's pack of dogs.
Val's pack eats well and I'm loving this fact. Regular meals work great for me, Augie. I've learned what a bath is. And there's this thing called a Kong; it's built like a little fire hydrant and is filled with goodies. Took just a bit to figure out then I hit the bonanza of food - yum! Oh, regular walks and running free in the grass are wonderful new realities. I love the pack, especially blind Roscoe the puppy and Mama Buffy; we play often. Have you ever seen 2 blind dogs play? It's very cool!
Holly and the Collie and Ibizan Rescue of Central NJ have stepped forward to take me in, including providing a foster in nearby NY. Thanks to Colleen with the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance and all of you wonderful transporters, I'm heading home this coming Saturday September 12, 2009!
Thank you so much!
