Willow has been through so much since friend Jan pulled her wet and freezing and sick near death in GA late December. Infections, eye removal, ear issues then this past week a tumor burst just above Willow's tail. We rushed her in and Dr Greg removed it then we awaited biopsy results - no cancer! It's fibroadnexal dysplasia instead and we're so happy for this ancient senior Cocker angel, Willow, a cherished member of our pack!

Homes Fur Doggies? / Hippy and Houdini's Sleepover
Some people contemplate the meaning of life, others contemplate navel fuzz, I just wonder why these magnificent doggies have yet to find a Furever Home, knowing that for each of these angels there is indeed a family that will be made complete when these angels join that pack. Without further ado, doggies for Furever Homes:
Brody - with 3 legs and blind, Brody is still the least handicapped dog ever here. Brody notices everything, sails up and down stairs, plays energetically, is totally well-behaved and house-trained, walks well on a leash, has the most beautiful fur and is always, every single moment, very happy!

Blind Mama (Natasha) - Mama is a delightful blind and deaf ex-breeding girl, very smart, very happy, extremely aware of her surroundings. Mama is house-trained, walks on leash, has the softest beautiful fur, goes up and down stairs effortlessly and loves attention, just needs her own Furever Home.

Harmony - is a blind and diabetic, loving ball of energy, joy, smarts and attitude. Harmony is easy to care for, just needs a quick shot after each meal and more walks than other doggies, walks well on leash, zips up and down stairs, absolutely loves cuddling, plays in the pen with big doggies, and is always so happy.

Frankie - has had a tough life. Healed bite marks testify that Frankie, even while blind, was likely a dog fighter's bait dog. However, Frankie is extremely affectionate and loving, house-trained, has the best sense of smell, enjoys play and is happily learning a new life full of love.

Peanut - was a neighbor's dog until run over and broken apart. Auburn University performed surgery to repair a badly broken right-rear leg and shattered into 20+ pieces left-rear pelvis. Peanut is just healed up, loves to play, pilfer toys, boss around big dogs, race like the wind, always be happy and give and get plenty of loving. Peanut is small at 14lbs, jumps like a spring, and keeps us always laughing at his funny, smart, positive attitude.

Hippy and Houdini's Sleep Over
Decided to take a nap with "The Brothers" Hippy and Houdini. Hippy was a drug-compound guard dog and has come far from the very aggressive dog that arrived here. Hippy has never had a potty accident, walks well on leash, is a total loving Daddy's Boy and is very bonded to Houdini. Houdini is literally "that dog don't hunt" and so was dumped by his hunter owner and found us starving. Houdini is aptly named and helps so much by reaching the 'hurt' doggies like Hippy, Annie and so many others.
So, the nap: I built a palate of blankets on the floor of their room, added pillows, went to turn off lights and it evolved to this sequence of pictures of Houdini and Hippy (p s - no nap for Dad!):

BLOG New! 02/20/11
IF you promise not to tell Val, please keep reading to the end otherwise please exit after the first section! :-)
Roscoe was the 1st BDRA adoption, a tiny blind puppy dropped in a night-box at the Lincoln County TN shelter. Of course he was a foster-failure doggie, as was Duncan who came to us in horrible condition, eye blown out by a shotgun blast, worms, mange, infections, more. We love these sweeties and - together with Mama Buffy and brother Kobe - they make up The Family, a very bonded group that stays and plays together. Also, as you can see from these pics, they clean each other and lately Roscoe has regularly been cleaning Duncan's eyes (just like the others do for him); pretty awesome the love between these dogs.

Received emails asking for more post-enucleation pics. Below please find Lucky Gabriel, Yara and Willow pics, all 2 weeks or less after eye removal.

OK ya can't tell Val. We learned about making healthy treats from our friend Maggie in GA, using a dehydrator. None were made, blind bulldog Annie texted, wanting contraband rawhide treats for all doggies on a beautiful 70F day, so I snuck out the rawhide chips! The doggies ain't tellin - "what happens in the yard stays in the yard!"

"Is that Dad with the banned treats? Yes! We're SO happy!" says high-leaping Annie Ballerina the Blind Bulldog Beauty and the others.

(from top down) Annie, Brody, Buffy, Duncan, Ginny, Harmony, Hippy, Frankie, Kobe,Lucky-Gabriel, Peanut, Willow, Roscoe, Mama ... and of course since these doggies are ladies and gentlemen, they said "thank you; " Mama saying thanks below! :-)

The Eyes Have It - Severe Pain Leads To Eye Removal
Willow and Lucky Gabriel both had eye issues corrected by eye removal. Willow's was a badly swollen eye with very high pressures while Gabriel suffered from ulcers in both eyes, one of which had ruptured. Neither doggie had any vision before surgery so the end result was only freedom from constant pain.
(top) Willow and Lucky Gabriel before their respective surgeries, then (middle and below) after surgery. Willow's stitches have been removed, Gabriel's will stay in until 02/21/11
